Our History

Zinia was founded over a decade ago by experienced IT consultant Frank Mullen and telecommunications entrepreneur Warren Bonheim, whose vision was to deliver the best networks under one roof. Zinia grew from a wireless ISP to become a fully-fledged communications and infrastructure services provider to companies, garnering a reputation for service excellence being consistently rated #1 in telecommunications on Hellopeter. The leadership team was bolstered by Carmen Hargroves to create a dedicated enterprise division that provided personalised, high-level account management for large corporate companies.

In 2018, Zinia incorporated an IT company into the business led by experienced IT executives Jason Gowar and Dean Vorster whose combined expertise brought enterprise-grade IT methodologies and resources to the business. Zinia then consolidated its position as a leading ICT provider offering Telecommunications, IT and Voice offerings to the market.

Today Zinia has the capability, innovative technology, and operational excellence to manage mid-sized to corporate organisations and focuses on six service pillars: Managed Services, Cloud, Cybersecurity as-a-service, Infrastructure, and Communications.

These solutions focus on driving business value through reliable, high performing, secure and agile IT operations that deliver cost-efficiency and risk mitigation.

Frank Mullen | Chief Executive Officer

Frank has over three decades of ICT industry expertise, is a passionate entrepreneur, and leads Zinia with zeal. He thrives on transforming businesses through innovation and technology, which led him to co-found Zinia in 2009 after successfully running a network consulting company, and a distribution business in the telecoms sector. Armed with his vast technical ICT expertise combined with razor-sharp business strategy skills, Frank is a formidable leader. His specialties include IT and telecoms products and services, business, importing, distributing, creating channels, growing direct B2B market share and businesses, turning around non profitable companies, and Business Strategy.

Warren Bonheim, Managing Director of Zinia

Warren Bonheim | Managing Director

Warren has 20 + years under his belt as an entrepreneur in the ICT sector where he founded two multi-million-rand businesses, the first one in the telecommunications industry specialising in PABX’s and Premicell Lease Cost Routers, and then Zinia which he co-founded with Frank Mullen at the young age of 29. He has a passion for growth and seeking “what’s next”, for the industry and his company, however always ensuring continual improvement of operations, processes, products/services, and people. His combination of negotiation skills and business acumen has allowed Warren to take Zinia forward even during tough market conditions, and his strength in sales and marketing ensures a strong market position and differentiation.

Carmen Hargroves, Director of Zinia Connect, leads our enterprise division that provides high level telecommunications and IT account management to large companies. With 28+ Years’ ICT experience, a wealth of large corporate account management experience, and multiple accreditations and certifications under her belt, Carmen is a dynamic and positive leader. Her strategic expertise, knowledge of the industry and relentless pursuit of always delivering on promises has earned her the trust of CEO’s and Chairmen of multi-billion Rand companies.

With 24+ years’ experience in the IT industry, Jason has become a trusted advisor to CIOs and CEOs throughout South Africa. Having worked for organisations like Arthur Anderson, Dimension Data, and Standard Bank, as well as with top brands and companies like Standard Bank, SAB, Nampak, Tiger Brands, Rennies Travel and Nedbank, Jason’s expertise with Blue Chip companies makes him an exceptional IT and Business strategist. As a firm proponent of best practices and standards, and armed with many IT qualifications and certifications, as well as strong business acumen, he is uncompromising about providing sound, honest advice through the best solutions, within a client’s budget. Dean Vorster | Chief Technology Officer

Dean Vorster, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Zinia, is responsible for the company’s technology direction and implementation, as well as the management of Zinia’s IT services, products, and resources. He has 14+ Years expertise in IT, starting with Argonaut Consulting where he was for 7 years and became the 2IC to the CEO, after which Argonaut joined the Zinia group of companies where he became the technical director of Zinia’s IT division - a few years later he was promoted to CTO. Dean is passionate about implementing best practices, standards, and procedures for technical solutions, within a solution-driven approach. His tenacity, transparency and focus for recommending realistic methodologies to meet business goals, has earned him the trust and credibility of Zinia’s clients.
